PRESS RELEASE
The Major William E. Simmons Camp 96, the Eli Landers Camp 1724, Sons of Confederate Veterans; Chapter 18, The United Daughters of the Confederacy; and The Gwinnett Historical Society will be hosting our annual Confederate Memorial Day Celebration on Saturday, April 26, 2008 on the grounds of the Historic Old Courthouse in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The festivities will begin at 11:30am.
Our guest speaker will be Mr. Bob Collins, First Lieutenant Commander of the Major William E. Simmons Camp 96. His subject will be President Jefferson F. Davis. 2008 marks the 200th anniversary of President Davis’ birthday.
Music of the period will be provided by “Me an’ the Boys” led by Dennis Cook.
Members of the Camp 96 Honor Guard along with members of the 18th Georgia Re-enactors will fire a salute with period muskets and artillery.
The public is invited.
